Tandberg Data Introduces Industry’s Highest Capacity RDX® Data Cartridge with 1.5TB of Native Storage

New RDX Data Cartridge Increases the Maximum Native Storage Capacity by 50 Percent, Extending Capacity Choices for Scalable Backup, Restore and Archiving Tasks

Tandberg Data, the owner of RDX technology and a global leader in data storage and protection solutions, today announced the addition of the 1.5 terabyte (TB) RDX data cartridge to its portfolio of RDX data protection solutions for small and medium businesses. RDX technology allows users to quickly store or back up their data onto rugged, removable RDX data cartridges, ensuring that their information is fully protected for instant availability, off-site safekeeping and easy transport.

"With this latest announcement, Tandberg Data once again advances RDX technology to meet the ever-growing storage requirements of customers who need reliable, affordable and simple data protection for their organisations," said Elisabeth Harth, global business unit director for Tandberg Data. "The 1.5TB RDX data cartridge, used in conjunction with AccuGuard™, Tandberg Data's powerful backup and deduplication software, permits users to store up to 30TB of compressed data on a single pocket-size cartridge."
"Customers in data-intensive industries, such as medical imaging, legal, graphic design, video surveillance, data mining and cloud storage, will find the extra storage capacity particularly appealing," said Graham Paterson, senior vice president, EMEA, Tandberg Data. "What's more, the RDX technology's forward and backward compatibility enables users to preserve their technology investment because the new RDX cartridge and all previous and future data cartridges will work in all RDX docks."

Tandberg Data's RDX QuikStation™ customers will also benefit from the new cartridge capacity when they fully populate their disk libraries with 1.5TB RDX data cartridges, increasing the appliance's native storage capacity from 8TB to 12TB. The RDX QuikStation delivers robust data protection and off-site disaster recovery in a feature-rich, multi-cartridge 2U configuration that integrates easily into a broad range of environments. The 1.5TB RDX cartridge will be available in September 2012 through Tandberg Data's established channel of distributor and reseller partners. All RDX media ship with a three-year advance replacement warranty.

About RDX Technology
RDX technology combines the best of tape storage — reliability, portability and long archive life — and the best of disk -- speed, random access and ease of use. The Tandberg Data RDX® QuikStor™ is compatible with common file systems and backup applications and is available with AccuGuard deduplication software that automates backups for users. With transfer rates of up to 650GB/hour, RDX allows users to access any file in milliseconds while cutting their backup window from hours to minutes. RDX cartridges are available from Tandberg Data in hard drive and solid-state disk drive capacities ranging from 64GB to 1.5TB. All RDX cartridges are removable for off-site storage, disaster recovery and archival applications, and are built to last more than 10 years with normal use. Today's RDX removable disk solutions include single dock systems, such as Tandberg Data's RDX QuikStor; LAN-attached disk-based appliances; and multi-cartridge removable disk libraries. RDX systems are used by organizations for data storage, backup, archive, disaster recovery and cloud seeding, among other applications.
