Backup Blind Spots Put Essential Data At Risk

Logicalis launches enterprise-grade cloud backup service

The explosion of content and data, coupled with a blas 0061pproach to backup in the workplace are a ticking operational time bomb, according to Logicalis which has launched its backup-as-a-service (BaaS) aimed at the Corporate and Enterprise segments.

Logicalis BaaS, which comes in two flavours, Corporate and Enterprise, aims to remove the perceived complexity, cost and tedium of managing backup by running a proactive, structured backup portfolio supported by penalty-based SLAs.

Despite Gartner predictions of 30%-60% compounded growth in data depending on the organisation[1], coupled with an increase in regulatory compliance and IT governance initiatives, Logicalis finds that backup still falls towards the bottom of most IT to do lists, with no structured checks or audits in most organisations, who are reliant on word of mouth to confirm a backup has been performed.

Logicalis' BaaS portfolio offers both on-premise infrastructure with off-site cloud replication or a pure cloud-only solution all backed by 24x7 management. Periodic restoration testing ensures backups have been completely successful and pricing is simple according to the volume of data being backed up and SLAs required. The cloud service, which falls under operating expenditure, allows companies to carefully manage their data growth and scale at a pace that suits them.

“It's time to call time on backup blind spots as you just can't put a price on the content contained within your organisation. In an information-based or service business, except for employees, company information and documentation are arguably the most important part of your business and if you don't know where they are in need of emergency, it's costing you money and reputation,” said Daniel Sultana, Director of Managed Services at Logicalis Australia. “Most companies we see have pretty flimsy checks in place to ensure the right data is being backed up regularly, and then accessible should the need arise. Logicalis' BaaS portfolio is essentially like taking out insurance on your data.”

BaaS Corporate is designed for small to mid-sized datasets with backup SLAs based on backup availability and backup success. BaaS Enterprise is designed for larger datasets (including those with a high rate-of-change) with backup SLAs focused on restoration.
