Software developers in Perth have the unique opportunity to hear and meet international and national experts as well as network with their peers at the inaugural YOW! West Conference and DepthFirst Workshops in Perth in May 2014.
YOW! Conferences were started by visionary thinker and developer, Dave Thomas, founder and past CEO of OTI (now IBM OTI Labs) to support Australian developers. Dave Thomas is an international Adjunct Professor at QUT and Chairman of Bedarra Research Labs in Canada and Australia which specializes in emerging technologies and practices.
“We were approached by some keen technical leads at BankWest about bringing the unique YOW! experience to Perth to support the growing local software community. They made a very convincing case and we’re thrilled to be bringing high calibre speakers covering the spectrum of languages and platforms to the West,” said Mr Thomas.
For the inaugural YOW! West Conference and Workshops, YOW! Australia has confirmed the following speakers:
- Dean Wampler, Functional Programming specialist, author and Typesafe Consultant based in Chicago who combines software development expertise with a PhD in Mathematics and a passion for data management, mining, analytics and machine learning.
- Jeff Patton, Agile Product Specialist who is passionate about making great software products. He works as a consultant and columnist with Stickyminds.com and IEEE Software and is based in Salt Lake City.
- Dave Thomas, YOW! organiser and software leader
The other speakers include national and local experts focussing on a wide range of technical topics including enterprise software development, mobile and the Internet of Things, Agile and Lean practices and functional programming.
Each year YOW! showcases the current and future direction in software development and delivery. The conferences held in December 2013 were well received by attendees with over 85% rating it positively. Topics covered at last year’s events include the latest in Agile Product Development, Service Architecture and Design, Cloud, Functional Programming, BigData, NoSQL, UX, Web, DevOps, Security, Performance and Languages.
