Radio remains a growing media outlet of choice for Australian listeners with a cumulative audience of nearly 10.5 million people listening each week in metropolitan areas, according to research from Commercial Radio Australia.
Digital radio which is now being rapidly deployed is also experiencing significant audience growth. Research reveals that DAB+ digital radio listening continued to grow throughout 2017 with over 3.6 million people listening each week to DAB+ digital radio in the five metropolitan capitals.

On the commercial radio front Southern Cross Austereo owns and operates the most amount of Digital Radio spectrum out of all commercial broadcasters. Currently DAB+ covers 65% of the population and is available in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and has recently been turned on in Canberra and Darwin.
For Hobart, DAB+ will be available in 2018.
The digital platform is also available in a growing range of vehicles with over 36 models of car in Australia currently offering the DAB+ option.
Australian technology developer CombiTel is leading the installation of digital radio streaming systems with their Omniscreen Radio range. The Omniscreen 16-channel digital radio (DAB+) model has been selected as part of a national initiative. The company has made significant headway deploying multiple Omniscreen Radio systems for the Federal Government .
