Cloud-based services drive Aussie economic growth

Australia’s prolific adoption of cloud technology is driving economic growth with cloud usage contributing $9.4 billion in productivity benefits to the Australian economy over the past five years.

A new report from Amazon Web Services and Deloitte Access Economics found that cloud service uptake is growing rapidly, with 42% of businesses currently using at least one paid service, up from 31% in 2016.

The report ‘The Economic Value of Cloud Services in Australia' canvassed  500 Australian businesses using cloud services and revealed that 78% of businesses had already increased their productivity by consolidating IT and streamlining processes.

CombiTel MD Eugene Razbash said the growth in cloud services shows great momentum for the growth of IPTV services across all industries. “A robust cloud and supportive high-speed broadband infrastructure assist local technology innovation and adoption of new services that will transform business and quality of life.

The highest use of cloud per industry comes from the information, media, and telecommunications sector at 64%, followed by mining at 53%, healthcare and social assistance at 45% retail at 42%, transport and logistics at 29% and agriculture, forestry, and fishing at 25%.

Deloitte Access Economics partner, and report principal author, John O’Mahony, said, “our analysis shows there are clear benefits for Australian businesses that use cloud services. From a technology perspective, the cloud can deliver cost savings, but it also allows businesses to be agile and elastic by accessing and scaling resources up and down as required.”
