The hematological disorders therapy area encompasses non-malignant disorders of the blood such as anemia, sickle cell disease, neutropenia and hemophilia. These diseases can be grouped into the three categories- red blood cell disorders, bleeding disorders and immune cell disorders - of which red blood cell disorders are characterized by significant unmet need related to few effective treatment options and poor prognosis.

Soliris is one of only two marketed treatment options for PNH and is forecast to generate annual revenue of over $3 billion by the end of 2017, rising to $5.5 billion in 2023.
