Global software firm and Technology giant Microsoft announced that it is working actively with the Indian government to leverage the Skype’s extensive video calling services so that Aadhar database can be simply used to make authenticated calls along with government institutions and others. According to Brad Smith, President and Chief Legal Officer, Microsoft Corporation – they are very excited and enthusiastic to embrace the universal ID system.
He added that - We have been doing work, initially on a trial basis, to use this ground-breaking technology and integrate it easily with Skype . Skype has huge potential and it is emerging in such an outstanding way thus, it can easily authenticate people from their home only by using their IDs and fingerprint or Iris scan. Apart from right authentication process, it can also be used to communicate with people at the other end to send confidential and required information so that person can be verified effortlessly and correctly. He also added that this initiative will enable people to encourage for government proceedings or help them avail a licence.
Microsoft and Indian Government this combined effort will create a kind of convenience in people’s lives. As it will make the process of Aadhar card easy and people will be not be required to travel for long distances and they can easily do the things by sitting in front of a computer.
While responding to a question – Being an open source, Microsoft is focussing on the whole Indian digital framework. Smith also said that the Microsoft thinks that Open Source and exclusive software can coexist.
Smith said, apart from launching the customer-centric data centres that will securely keep customer data within the country, Microsoft was also working closely with the Indian government for setting up the reliable Cyber Security Engagement Centre (CSEC), which will under the digital crimes unit of the company. He added that - The aim of the centre is to work with the customers and law enforcement agencies to help shareholders fight cybercrime. In a recent interview - Bhaskar Pramanik, Microsoft, India chairman said that the company was also offering security consulting services to organisation with critical infrastructure including power plants and defence.
