Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5 has that premium look-and-feel to it, but would a price tag of $399 USD justifies enough to purchase it? Read more to find out.

If you might recall, there’s another flagship with the same name Asus Zenfone 3 which has the following specs:

  • 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~386 ppi pixel density
  • All-metal body made of the finest aerospace-grade alloy, precision-milled with 0.14mm diamond-cutting technology
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection
  • Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset, Dual-core 2.15 GHz Kryo & dual-core 1.6 GHz Kryo processor, Adreno 530 graphics and 6GB RAM
  • 23MP primary camera with f/2.0, laser/phase detection autofocus, OIS (4-axis) and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging: 60% in 39 minutes (Quick Charge 3.0)
  • SonicMaster and High-Res Audio certification
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • August 2016 release date
  • $499 USD price tag

It has everything that you could ask for from a flagship smartphone. An exquisite metal body with high-end hardware, great 23MP-8MP camera, great audio system and fast battery charging feature.

So where does Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5 stands in all these things?

Well, you can say that it gets stuck in a tough position especially with its price tag pegged at $399 USD. Let’s see what the $100 USD price difference will net you with the Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5:

  • Smaller 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density
  • Metal and glass body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection
  • Weaker Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 chipset, Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 506 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • Weaker 16MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, laser/phase detection autofocus, OIS, dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging: 60% in 40 minutes (Quick Charge 3.0)
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • August 2016 release date
  • $399 USD price tag

With that in mind, Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5 presents a smaller 5.5-inch screen, slightly weaker hardware with 2GB RAM less, slightly weaker 16MP primary camera and no high-end sound system in it.

Knowing that all other specs remain the same, you can safely put the Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5 in the mid-range segment. It still has that similar premium look-and-feel with a combination of metal and glass for the body, a fingerprint sensor for biometric purposes, Gorilla Glass 4 protection, sufficient 64GB internal storage which can be further expanded, 3000 mAh battery with fast battery charging capability and Marshmallow 6.0 OS running the show.

Conclusion:

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5 will never reach the heights of its bigger sibling. For that price range, there are a few others who could easily challenge and come out on top. If you have the budget, I suggest you spend an additional $100 USD to get the proper flagship from Asus.

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5 is currently available for pre-order for $499 and is set to be released very soon. It will be available only in Shimmer Gold.
