Motorola did have its fair share of ups and downs recently, but it seems they have taken a turn for the better. With the expansion of E-series, M-series, X-series and Z-series; it looks like Motorola have got all their bases covered.

Let’s begin by taking a trip down memory lane and take a look at what Moto G4 was all about:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density)
  • Gorilla Glass 3 protection
  • Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617 chipset, Octa-core processor made up of Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53, Adreno 405 graphics and 2GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.0, autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with f/2.2 and auto-HDR
  • 16GB or 32GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 128GB
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0, upgradeable to Nougat 7.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • May 2016 release date
  • $179 USD price tag

It might not be the sharpest tool around, but the Moto G4 has all it needs to be a capable mid-range smartphone. Good hardware, good camera, latest OS updates and good battery combines well to give you a capable device.

So, what can we expect of the Moto G5 then? There’s not much info available for the time being, but what we do know as of now is as per below:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density)
  • Gorilla Glass protection
  • Octa-core processor and 2GB/3GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture
  • 16GB or 32GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Android Nougat 7.0 OS
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • Expected Q1 2017 release date

Scheduled to be released in Q1 2017, there seems to be just a little bit improvement that can be seen for now. Although still a long way to go before its release, don’t think that Moto G5 offers anything substantial enough to warrant an upgrade for existing users. But things might just change as we get nearer to the release date, so you still have hope for now.
