Mi 5c is a spin-off of Xiaomi’s flagship dubbed the Mi 5. But as you might know by now, they are the kings of dishing out value for money smartphone, hence the introduction of Mi 5c to cater for the entry-level market.

But there’s nothing close to entry-level with the Mi 5c as you can see from the below specs:

  • 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~424 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Octa-core 2.2 GHz processor and 3GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 5MP secondary camera
  • 32GB internal storage with no microSD expansion slot
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion battery with Fast battery charging
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • December 2016 release date
  • $999 Chinese Yuan or ~$144 USD price tag

With that amount of money, Mi 5c presents us with a 5.2-inch Full HD screen that is wrapped in a beautiful metal body and also comes with a fingerprint sensor. You can rarely find all these together for a smartphone this affordable. It is either you have one or two, definitely not all three combining together.

Under the hood of the Mi 5c is a very speedy octa-core processor and 3GB RAM complementing it.This should ensure that it won’t have any trouble running most of the apps and games out there without any issues.

Camera-wise, the 13MP-5MP combo is the mid-range ground and you should find that the Mi 5c to be a capable shooter. More than enough for your daily dose of photo-taking as it will come out looking good for you.

If there’s any stumbling block with the Mi 5c, is on its storage side of things. This smartphone is only equipped with 32GB of internal storage, so you can expect to perform housekeeping every now and then. But that’s not the end of the world though, as you can still turn to USB on-the-go or cloud storage to further expand it.

Now that we have covered some ground, let’s turn our attention to the P7. It is said to be targeted at entry-level users from the emerging markets.

You can find the P7’s specs as per below:

  • 5-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~294 ppi pixel density
  • Soda Lime protection
  • Quad-core 1.3 GHz processor and 2GB RAM
  • 8MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 5MP secondary camera
  • 16GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Li-Ion 2300 mAh battery
  • Amigo 3.2 OS based on Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • December 2016 release date
  • $149 USD price tag

Just by glancing through it, you can definitely say the P7 is entry-level all right. With a 5-inch HD screen, there’s no fingerprint sensor or metal body to enhance its features. But it is a looker though, with transparent & glossy texture that makes this smartphone a beautiful style symbol. It also comes with a smooth body that provides for a comfortable grip.

Hardware-wise, the P7 is sporting a slow quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. You might find it a little bit of a struggle to run demanding apps and games, let along perform multi-tasking with it.

In terms of camera, the 8MP primary camera is limiting and might disappoint you at times. Well at least the 5MP selfie camera should be able to redeem somewhat.

The other advantage that the P7 has is on the storage side of things. Although it is equipped with just 16GB of internal storage, you can easily pop in a microSD card to expand it all the way to 256GB.

As for the battery, there’s a rather limited 2300 mAh battery supplying juice to the P7. But that is still enough to last you for at least if you are not a particularly heavy user.
