For a budget of under $150, you can still expect to have a good time enjoying your smartphone of choice. Today, we host Xiaomi Mi 5c and Panasonic P88 as they take the stage for a duel.
Xiaomi has been carrying the title of people’s budget smartphone, and the Mi 5c is expected to be the same in championing the cause for end users out there.
Don’t believe us? Well let’s its specs as per below do the talking for the Mi 5c:
- 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~424 ppi pixel density
- Metal body
- Fingerprint sensor
- Octa-core 2.2 GHz processor and 3GB RAM
- 13MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash
- 5MP secondary camera
- 32GB internal storage with no microSD expansion slot
- Android Marshmallow 6.0
- Non-removable Li-Ion battery with Fast battery charging
- Dual-sim and 4G LTE
- January 2017 release date
- $999 Chinese Yuan or ~$144 USD
First up is the 5.2-inch Full HD IPS screen which you don’t normally find for a smartphone this cheap. Not only that, with the availability of a metal body and fingerprint sensor further adds more value to the Mi 5c.
Regarding performance, a speedy octa-core processor coupled with 3GB RAM would ensure you have a great time using this smartphone. You will have no problems running most of the apps and games out there in the market.
Camera-wise, a handy 13MP-5MP camera is available for you to be able to capture all those precious moments.
One word of caution, though, as the Mi 5c only comes with 32GB of internal storage with no future expansion available. But then again, you can still turn to cloud storage to alleviate the issue.
Now that we’ve covered a lot of ground, now let’s turn our attention to the P88. Most of us wouldn’t normally associate the Panasonic brand name with a smartphone, for the simple reason that they are more well-known for coming out with household products like a television, washing machine, refrigerator and the sorts.
But all that is about to change, as we got introduced to the P88:
- 5.3-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~277 ppi pixel density
- Asahi Dragontrail Glass protection
- Quad-core 1.25 GHz processor and 2GB RAM
- 13MP primary camera with autofocus and triple-LED flash
- 5MP secondary camera with LED flash
- 16GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
- Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery
- Android Marshmallow 6.0
- Dual-sim and 4G LTE
- December 2016 release date
- $135 USD price tag
The first thing that will catch your attention is on its rather peculiar 5.3-inch screen size. We find it rather odd, though. But it doesn’t stop there, as the P88 only comes with a High Definition resolution. However, it gets a nice piece of protection in the form of Dragontrail Glass.
It might suffer a bit regarding performance with its rather limited quad-core processor and 2GB RAM. This combo would mean you would only enjoy the simple things in life with the P88, like social media and lightweight apps and no heavy gaming.
If there’s one thing that would put the P88 above its competitor is on its primary camera side of things. This is where this smartphone shines brightly with the triple-LED flash that lets you capture soft looking photos that are more natural to the eyes. Lots of fun can be had with its camera. Even for its 5MP selfie camera, there’s a LED flash which means that you will be able to capture selfies even in low-light conditions.
Storage-wise, even though there’s only 16GB of internal storage which is on the low side, but at least you can expand it easily up to 256GB with the availability of the microSD expansion slot.
Xiaomi Mi 5c offers a lot of features and functions for a very affordable amount of money. You don’t normally find a smartphone that comes with a metal body, fingerprint sensor, speedy octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 13MP-5MP camera and 32GB storage for this kind of price.
With the release date of Xiaomi Mi 5c targeted in January 2017, it will be priced at $999 Chinese Yuan or ~$144 USD. It is said to be available in various colors.
Panasonic P88 is a smartphone that excels in the camera department but is let down with its peculiar screen size and doubtful performance. Only go for it if you love to take pictures and selfies, as it will bring you joy. It is also slightly cheaper by $9 USD if it makes any difference to you.
Panasonic P88 is currently available for $9290 Rupees or ~$135 USD and comes in Gold and Charcoal Grey color.
