They say if you like using a stylus pen with your smartphone, then you won’t go back with using your fingers to tap on the screen. Unfortunately, there are very limited options that you can get your hands on. Hence fans will rejoice at the return of LG Stylus 3 in February 2017.

The concept of having a stylus pen was made hugely popular by the Samsung Galaxy Note series, but it is an expensive option. Not forgetting the fiasco of Galaxy Note 7 just recently, which further limits your options.

But did you know that LG released the Stylus 2 last June 2016? Here are its specs:

  • 5.7-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~258 ppi pixel density
  • Stylus pen
  • Thin body at just 155 x 79.6 x 7.4 mm (6.10 x 3.13 x 0.29 in) and light at 145 g (5.11 oz)
  • Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset, Quad-core 1.2 GHz processor, Adreno 306 and 1.5GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • 16GB internal storage + 128GB microSD expansion
  • Removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • 4G LTE
  • June 2016 release date
  • $279 USD price tag

Even then, it carries a heavy price tag – and only appeal greatly to fans of the stylus. Those who can make do without the stylus are better off with lots of other smartphones that are available.

Which brings us the question of what will the Stylus 3 bring to the table? Here’s what we know about this latest release from the Korean manufacturer:

  • 5.7-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~258 ppi pixel density
  • Stylus pen
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Thin body at
  • Mediatek MT6750 chipset, Octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T860MP2 graphics and 3GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 5MP secondary camera
  • 16GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Removable Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • Expected February 2017 release date

There’s some noticeable upgrade on the Stylus 3, namely the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor, better chipset, twice the number of cores with the octa-core processor, upgraded graphics and twice the amount of memory which now stands at 3GB RAM.

Not only that, but the battery also gets a slight upgrade to accommodate the upgraded hardware so that it can last you for at least a day in between charging.

With the Stylus 3 running on the latest Android Nougat 7.0 OS right out of the box, you will get all the latest features and enhancements that the latest operating system provides. Last but not least, now you can enjoy dual-sim capability which is a nice thing to have.

But not all is fine though with the Stylus 3, as you will have to make do with a weaker 5MP selfie camera. No idea why LG decided to go with this setup.

Conclusion:

Expected to be released next month, the only missing link, for now, is on the pricing side of things. But what we do know, is that LG Stylus 3 provides for a worthy upgrade and updates that previous owners are looking for. Better hardware and the latest software should entice fans of the stylus to go for this smartphone. But if you are not a fan, there are tons of other choices out there that you can go for.

LG Stylus 3 is reported to be available in February 2017 although there’s no pricing confirmation yet. It will be available in Titan and Pink Gold colour.
