Meizu seems to be doing it again with the introduction of M5s which should be just as affordable and set to be released very soon.

Just in November last year, the M5 was released, and it was a resounding success for a smartphone that only costs $99 USD.

Here’s a quick recap at what the M5 was all about:

  • 5.2-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~282 ppi pixel density
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6750 chipset, Octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T860MP2 graphics and 2GB/3GB RAM
  • 16GB/32GB internal storage + microSD slot up to 256GB maximum
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • Non-removable 3070 mAh battery
  • Android Lollipop 5.1
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • November 2016 release date
  • $99 USD for 16GB storage + 2GB RAM and $129 USD for 32GB storage + 3GB RAM

As you can imagine, the M5 was doing really well in the sales department with it being great value for money. For $99 USD, the smartphone is sporting a 5.2-inch screen, 2.5D curved glass, fingerprint sensor, an octa-core processor, 13MP-5MP camera and a 3070 mAh battery.

As the name suggests, the M5s is set to be a sibling to the best-selling M5. And here’s what we have learnt so far about it as per below:

  • 5.2-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~282 ppi pixel density
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6753 chipset, Octa-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T860MP2 graphics and 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage + microSD slot up to 256GB maximum
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 2930 mAh battery
  • Updated Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE

There’s just some subtle difference between the two, and the M5s is sporting a similar screen size at 5.2-inch. It is said to have the same HD resolution as well.

If there’s anything missing from the M5s, it would be the 2.5D curved glass. But the fingerprint sensor is expected to be there.

Performance-wise, you can expect more or less of the same with its MT6753 chipset, an octa-core processor, good graphics and a selection of either 2GB, 3GB or 4GB RAM.

In terms of storage, there’s 16GB of internal storage available which can be easily expanded all the way up to 256GB via its microSD slot.

As for the camera side of things, the M5s will also be sporting an almost similar 13MP-5MP camera setup.

Finally, the M5s will have an advantage of an updated Android Marshmallow 6.0 OS running out of the box. This should make it favourable as it can tap into the features and functions of the newer OS right from the word go.

Conclusion:

The only missing link for now would on Meizu’s M5s price tag. Seeing that its brother M5 have a starting price of just $99 USD, you can expect more of the same from this smartphone.

Meizu M5s is said to be released in the next couple of months and it is said to be available in a variety of colours – Mint Green, Glacier White, Champanage Gold, Sapphire Blue and Matte Black.
