The S-series now in its 8th edition, have always been the South Korean masterpiece. They have been contributing to the bulk of Samsung’s smartphone revenue, and it won’t be long before we can get a piece of them.

Let’s begin by looking at the smaller Galaxy S8 as per below:

  • 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2560 pixels or ~506 ppi pixel density
  • IP68 certified - dust proof and water resistant over 1.5 meters and 30 minutes
  • 3D Touch display
  • Curved glass
  • Metal body
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection
  • Iris, fingerprint and heart rate sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.45 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo), Adreno 540 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • 12MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture, 26mm, phase detection autofocus, OIS and LED flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/1.7 aperture, dual video call, Auto HDR
  • 64GB/128GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Nougat 7.0 OS
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • March 2017 launch date, April 2017 release date

It is little wonder that Galaxy S8 will be met with a positive response from the crowd, as it manages to improve a lot of things. A large 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen, IP68 certification, an iris scanner, speedy Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with a fast Kryo octa-core processor and the latest Nougat 7.0 OS are some of the things that will make it tick.

With that in mind, will the Galaxy S8 Plus be able to put in a good fight? The initial consensus is yes, if based on the below specs:

  • Larger 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2560 pixels or ~474 ppi pixel density
  • IP68 certified - dust proof and water resistant over 1.5 meters and 30 minutes
  • 3D Touch display
  • Curved glass
  • Metal body
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection
  • Iris, fingerprint and heart rate sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.45 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo), Adreno 540 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • Dual 12MP primary camera withf/1.7 aperture, 26mm, phase detection autofocus, OIS and LED flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/1.7 aperture, dual video call and Auto HDR
  • 64GB/128GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Larger non-removable Li-Ion 3500 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Nougat 7.0 OS
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • March 2017 launch date, April 2017 release date

With everything else being equal, Galaxy S8 Plus is said to be sporting a larger 6.2-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen which is huge. Don’t imagine handling this huge flagship with a single hand, two-handed operation is very much likely.

Next improvement will be on its dual 12MP primary camera which seems to be the norm these days. The trend of having a dual camera setup is becoming more mainstream, and Galaxy S8 Plus wouldn’t want to miss out on this growing hype. The ability to take more accurate photos with the bokeh effect is a feeling that you must try out on your own.

Galaxy S8 Plus will be sporting a slightly larger 3500 mAh battery to accommodate its larger screen size. But frankly speaking, it might seem a bit low, and if you're a particularly heavy user – just have a power bank available just in case.

The rest of the specs are all there which is similar to the Galaxy S8.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is set to have a similar March 29th launch date with a release date fixed on April 21st. Expect to pay a hefty sum, perhaps closer to ~$1,000 USD to own one. It is said to be available in Black, White, Gold, Silver and Pink Gold.
