With no confirmed release date, there has been a recent leak that really got us excited. But before we begin, let’s take a look back at where it all began – with the introduction of Redmi Pro back in August last year:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD LTPS AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6797 Helio X20 chipset, Deca-core 2.1 GHz processor, Mali-T880 MP4 graphics and 3GB RAM
  • 32GB/64GB/128GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Dual 13MP+5MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with wide-angle and f/2.0 aperture
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 4050 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • August 2016 release date
  • $229 for Helio X20 chipset + 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, $259 for Helio X25 chipset + 3GB RAM + 64GB storage and $299 for Helio X25 chipset + 4GB RAM + 128GB storage

Back then, Redmi Pro is already relishing its glory in the sun with its great specs. Where else can you find a smartphone with 10-cores and dual primary camera for such a low price of $229 USD?

Now that one month has passed us in 2017, we can sense that a storm is starting to brew and it has a name to it – Redmi Pro 2.

Don’t believe us, well take a look at the below leaked specs and see for yourself:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD LTPS AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and 4GB/6GB RAM
  • 64GB/128GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • 12MP primary camera with Sony IMX362 sensor, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 4500 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • $229 USD for 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and $259 USD for 6GB RAM + 128GB storage

It might still be early, but Redmi Pro 2 seems to be a worthy successor – and cheaper even. Yes, it might have the same 5.5-inch Full HD LTPS AMOLED screen, metal body, fingerprint sensor and 2.5D curved glass though.

But it ditches the 10-core processor and instead went for the Snapdragon 660 chipset which is brand new and more powerful than ever. The baseline model now comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, and if you want more; there’s another 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage variant that is available.

Camera-wise, Redmi Pro 2 might not be sporting a similar dual primary camera setup, but it will be now equipped with the 12MP primary camera with Sony IMX362 sensor.

As far as battery is concerned, Xiaomi also had that covered with the Redmi Pro 2 expected to be powered by a 4500 mAh battery. More than enough for a day’s usage, sometimes even up two days.

Conclusion:

Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 went for more performance and more battery life, but did it just sacrificed camera performance? But did you now know that all this comes at a lesser price? If you haven’t own a Xiaomi smartphone up until now, it is about time you give a try and marvel at its value-for-money proposition.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 is expected to be released in the next couple of months and will be available for approximately $229 USD for the 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and $259 USD for the 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage.
