  • $11,999 Indian Rupee or ~$219 USD

From the get-go, we can easily spot the great specs that Blade A2 Plus begets. Starting with the 5.5-inch Full HD IPS screen, it also has an elegant body that is crafted from aluminum alloy and featuring a premium finish. The 2.5D curved edge glass display makes for a firmer grip and adds few more points to its sexy appeal.

It might be a norm these days, but the fingerprint reader on the Blade A2 Plus recognises your fingerprint and lets you unlock it in just 0.3 seconds. This feature not only keeps your smartphone away from any unauthorised access, but it also makes for a convenient way for you to capture photos and answer calls with just a tap of the finger.

Performance-wise, Blade A2 Plus have lots of it available which even makes multitasking a breeze. All this is made possible with its MT6750T chipset, decently fast octa-core processor, good graphics and 4GB RAM. There’s nothing that this smartphone can’t run fast enough.

As for the camera, Blade A2 Plus is sporting a 13MP primary camera with PDAF that helps you capture photos in crisp detail. As for the 8MP selfie camera, it makes use of the entire display as a flash; that lets you shoot bright and clear selfies and ‘groupfies’ even under low light conditions.

In terms of storage, a good amount of it is available with 32GB internal storage that can be further expanded up to a maximum of 256GB via its microSD slot.

Tired of having a battery that so often dies on you in the middle of the day? Say goodbye to poor battery life issue, as a whopping 5000 mAH battery is available which can easily power up the device for two days. Blade A2 Plus also features the Pump Express technology which helps the battery charge from zero to almost full in less than an hour. Another innovative feature on this smartphone is the OTG Reverse Charge technology, which can charge other devices.

If there’s anything that might turn you off about the Blade A2 Plus, is that it is still running on the dated Android Marshmallow 6.0 OS. So far there has been no word that it will get an update to the latest Nougat 7.0 OS, so you might miss out on the latest features and functions that the latest OS brings to the table.

Now let’s turn our attention to the other end with Zenfone 3s Max:

  • 5.2-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~282 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6750 chipset, Octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T860MP2 graphics and 3GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • 32GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • February 2017 release date
  • $219 USD price tag

For the same price, you will be getting an almost similar smartphone except for some differences. And that difference could prove to be major and poses a disadvantage to the Zenfone 3s Max.

First of all, you will be getting a smaller screen size and a reduced resolution as well. This doesn’t bode well, even though there’s still the metal body and fingerprint sensor that is available.

Performance-wise, there isn’t much difference since they both using the same MT6750 chipset with similar processor and similar graphics. Except that Zenfone 3s Max has 1GB RAM less, with just 3GB RAM overall. Multi-tasking might not be a huge thing, unless you frequently switch between apps.

Camera-wise, Zenfone 3s Max is equipped with a 13MP-8MP camera setup which is quite balanced and is able to produce good quality photos with ease. With the Dual LED Real Tone Flash, it can deliver photos that are true-to-life colors with depth, even in low-light conditions. The selfie camera has an 85-degree Field of View that enables you to take not only take selfies, but enables to capture wide angle groupies.

Same story on the storage side of things, as the Zenfone 3s Max also comes with 32GB of internal storage that can easily take in 256GB of storage via its microSD slot.

Another similarity is on the available 5000 mAh battery, which can easily hold three days of battery life in between charging. It can also be on standby mode for up to 34 days. This practically solves all your problems.

If there’s one distinct advantage that the Zenfone 3s Max is on the software – more specifically the latest Android Nougat 7.0 OS. This means you will be getting the latest features and enhancements right out of the box, which is a great thing indeed.

Conclusion:

Both of them might be available for the same amount of money, but ZTE Blade A2 Plus offers more with its great body, slightly better performance, good camera and great battery life. It you can look beyond the fact that it is running on a dated OS, then by all means it is a great smartphone with great value.

ZTE Blade A2 Plus had just been released and is currently available for $11,999 Indian Rupee or ~$219 USD. It is only available in Gold color.

Asus Zenfone 3s Max ZC521TL is kind of a mixed bag, with great battery life and the latest operating system being the highlight of the show. But you should be seriously concerned with its smaller screen size and equipped with only a HD resolution.

Asus Zenfone 3s Max ZC521TL had also just been released for ~$USD 219. You can choose either Gold or Black color.
