Being renowned in the camera world with its Cybershot series, there’s already an Xperia XA1 Ultra that will be coming out soon. But with a huge 6-inch Full HD IPS screen, it certainly isn’t for everyone.

Let’s do a little throwback on Xperia XA1 Ultra as per below:

  • 6-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~367 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Mediatek MT6757 Helio P20 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.6 GHz Cortex-A53) processor, Mali-T880MP2 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • 23MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, 24mm, phase detection and laser autofocus, and LED flash
  • 16MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture, 23mm, 1/2.6" sensor size, OIS, autofocus, LED flash and 1080p
  • 32GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 2700 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • Expected Q2 2017 release date

Xperia XA1 Ultra have all the characteristics to be a very great smartphone once it gets released in the coming months. Huge 6-inch screen, great metal body with 2.5D glass, great hardware, amazing 23MP-16MP camera and the latest Nougat 7.0 OS. Well everything, except for its rather meagre 2700 mAh battery.

Let us now then turn our attention to the smaller sibling – Xperia XA1:

  • 5-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~294 ppi pixel density
  • Scratch-resistant glass (> 9H)
  • Mediatek MT6757 Helio P20 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.6 GHz Cortex-A53) processor, Mali-T880MP2 graphics and 3GB RAM
  • 23MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, 24mm, phase detection and laser autofocus & LED flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture, 23mm, autofocus and 1/4" sensor size
  • 32GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 2300 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • Expected Q2 2017 release date

For starters, Xperia XA1 might not even be close to its bigger brother. It seems like everything is downsized, including its screen size. With a 5-inch screen and a High Definition resolution making up the smartphone, only fans of a small-screen device will rejoice. Regarding protection, it comes with a little bit of an extra with the scratch-resistant glass available.

Under the hood of the Xperia XA1 is almost similar, with the same Helio P20 chipset paired with a fast octa-core processor, great graphics but with 1GB RAM less. It still packs a powerful punch by any means, and no problem to run all the latest apps and games that are out there in the market.

Camera-wise, here’s where the fun starts on the Xperia XA1. It will be sporting the same 23MP primary camera with all the bells and whistles to make it a great point-and-shoot camera smartphone. Even becoming close to that of a DSLR camera. As for its 8MP selfie camera, it will still be able to provide a good experience for selfie lovers.

As for storage, the same 32GB internal storage is available for you to store all your photos in high-res, install some apps and games according to your liking. But it will soon be full, that’s where a microSD expansion slot comes in handy.

A slightly worrying trend is on its rather limited 2300 mAh battery capacity. If you are a heavy user, you might even run flat on battery during the day. Best if you can equip yourself with a power bank, just in case.

The latest Android Nougat 7.0 OS will be there to provide all the latest features and enhancements that it brings.

Conclusion:

Sony Xperia XA1 is set to be a great nifty smartphone for those who love taking photos. You can be assured of a great camera experience, with both its primary and selfie camera. A great hardware and the latest Android OS is a bonus. You probably have to watch out for its rather limited battery life though.

Sony Xperia XA1 is expected to be released in Q2 2017 although there’s no confirmation on the price yet. It will be available in White, Black, Gold and Pink.
