Now that's an amazing news for everyone involved!
It did come as a surprise for us when the news broke that Strategy Analytics released a report that the OPPO R9s is the world’s number one selling Android smartphone in Q1 2017.
Let’s first talk about global smartphone shipments which reached an incredible 353.3 million units in Q1 2017. The top-five most popular models together accounted for 1 in 6 of all smartphones shipped worldwide during the first quarter in 2017.
OPPO R9s shipped 8.9 million units to came in third place behind Apple iPhone 7 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus. Who would have thought that the brand name could capture the world’s imagination against the might of Apple in this case? With a 2.5% of the world’s market share under its belt, it is such an amazing achievement.
For it to come in first for Android device is indeed such a great honor for the Chinese manufacturer, and for Android as well.
We’ve already covered the OPPO R9s previously; you may want to read OPPO R9s again: an improved 5.5-inch metal with Snapdragon 625, 4GB RAM and 16MP-16MP camera. It talked about how much it has improved over its predecessor, the OPPO R9.
OPPO Australia’s Executive Director Michael Tran said
“Australia is one of those countries, and we’ve seen huge demand for the R9s within our retail partners. This is due to the fact the R9s provides a premium quality look and feel, while offering features typically associated with flagship smartphones, for an affordable price.
“What we’re seeing is consumers increasingly purchasing low to mid-tier phones outright on prepaid or SIM-Only plans. Those that do want to go down the contract route are also looking at alternative mobile devices, which have lower or zero handset repayment costs and offer greater value.
For Aussie consumers, it’s all about finding the best phone at the right price point, and that’s where OPPO is perfectly situated.”
“The R9s is perfect for those consumers who want a high-end phone without the high price tag. Additionally, we’ve seen significant demand for our F series, with the F1s proving exceptionally popular when it was launched last year, as well as our new device, the A57.
“Our strategy moving forwards is to continue to drive growth in the mid-tier smartphone market and become the number one player in this space. This is where we see the biggest opportunity and believe Aussie consumers deserve premium quality phones at affordable prices.”
For those of you who have yet to get hold of OPPO R9s, now is the right time to do so.
