Archos Sense 55s: for $289 will get you a 5.2-inch Full HD smartphone with octa-core, 2GB RAM and dual 8MP primary camera

With the release date of Archos Sense 55s set in the coming weeks, we just have to wait to confirm if the above specifications are true.

For those of you who have little to no idea of who the company Archos is, it is actually a French multinational electronics company that was established in 1988 that manufactures tablets, smartphones, portable media players and portable data storage devices. Since their HQ and other offices are pretty much in Europe, it is quite normal for you to not have heard about them before this.

In fact, they already have another smartphone called Diamond Alpha which is due to be released anytime soon as per below specs:

  • 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~424 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8976 Snapdragon 652 chipset, Octa-core (4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4x1.4 GHz Cortex-A53) processor, Adreno 510 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • Dual 13MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 16MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 2950 mAh battery
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • July 2017 expected release date
  • $349 Euro or ~$399 USD price tag

We can safely say that Diamond Alpha will be somewhere in the medium to high range of the market, so that leaves Archos with a lot to do in the mid-range and entry level segment.

Let’s then take a closer look at Sense 55s as per below:

  • 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~424 ppi pixel density
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Quad-core and 2GB RAM
  • Dual 8MP primary camera with autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 16GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 128GB maximum
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • Q3 2017 expected release date
  • $249 Euro or ~$289 USD price tag

There’s still some missing links for the time being, and only time will tell on the other specs or whether the above might still be improved. Because at it is, there’s a lot of disappointing stuff that surrounds Sense 55s.

First up, it will be expected that the smartphone will be sporting a similar 5.2-inch Full HD IPS screen with fingerprint sensor which is a nice touch.

But when it comes to what’s under the hood of the Sense 55s, it will be a very disappointing quad-core processor with just 2GB of RAM. This combination could spell trouble for the smartphone, as it doesn’t do justice to the price tag.

Well if you are a fan of taking photos, then probably the dual 8MP primary camera will be able to cheer you up. Packed with standard features, you will be able to shoot great-looking photos with the Sense 55s camera.

Moving on to the storage, surely its 16GB internal storage won’t be enough to store all your favorite apps, games and high-res photos that you will be taking. That’s why you will have to thank the available microSD expansion slot which can take in a maximum of 128GB.

Then there’s the 3000 mAh battery that will supply the necessary power to the Sense 55s. It shouldn’t be a problem to provide enough juice for a full day of charge.

Finally, the latest Android Nougat 7.0 operating system will be available right out the box. It does help a little bit on its mediocre hardware, but probably not much it can do with it.

Archos Sense 55s seems to have a hard battle on its hands. With that kind of price, there are definitely better options available for you out there in the market. That is until they finalize all the specs, where we are still missing a couple of things from its setup.

Archos Sense 55s is set for a Q3 2017 release which it will then be available for approximately $249 Euro or ~$289 USD. It will only be available in Black color.
