For those who might not have heard of Vivo, the Chinese manufacturer is one of the leading smartphone company that never disappoint us with its great selfie camera smartphone. As for the X9s Plus, there’s actually a smaller sibling called X9s that we had earlier reviewed which has the following specs:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8976 Snapdragon 652 chipset, Octa-core (4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4x1.2 GHz Cortex A53) processor, Adreno 510 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • 16MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus and LED flash
  • Dual 20MP+5MP secondary camera with LED flash
  • 64GB internal storage with no microSD expansion slot
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3320 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Funtouch OS 3.1 based Android Nougat 7.1
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • July 2017 release date
  • $2,698 Chinese Yuan or ~$399 USD estimated price tag

In summary, X9s comes with a mid-range hardware, an amazing selfie camera, great primary camera, good battery and the latest operating system to boot. You only have to be careful of its limited 64GB internal storage.

Well then, what is in store for us with X9s Plus? Let’s begin by taking a closer look at it as per below:

  • 5.85-inch Full HD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~377 ppi pixel density
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8976 Snapdragon 653 chipset, Octa-core (4x1.95 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4x1.44 GHz Cortex-A53), Adreno 510 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • 16MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus and LED flash
  • Dual 20MP+5MP secondary camera with LED flash
  • 64GB internal storage with no microSD expansion slot
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 4015 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Funtouch OS 3.1 based Android Nougat 7.1
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • Q3 2017 release date
  • $2,998 Chinese Yuan or ~$439 USD estimated price tag

If you take a closer look between the two, then the extra $40 USD that you will have to pay in getting the X9s Plus is pretty much justified. For starters, it will now have a slightly larger 5.85-inch Full HD AMOLED screen which requires two-handed operation. Also make sure you have a pocket that is deep enough to store the phablet, or else you will be going to need a bag to carry it.

Under the hood of the X9s Plus will also receive an upgrade in the form of a better Snapdragon 653 chipset and a faster octa-core processor. The same good graphics and 4GB RAM makes for a formidable mid-range phablet with a performance to boot.

Regarding the camera, they both share the same setup with the X9s Plus sporting the similar 16MP primary camera and dual 20MP+5MP selfie camera as well. With this combination, you know that you will be having some serious fun snapping away and producing great pictures.

The same problem replicated in the X9s Plus is having only 64GB internal storage with no option to expand further. It is about time you depend more on cloud storage and start using USB on-the-go more frequently.

With an upgraded 4015 mAh battery, the phablet should be able to last for a full day in between charging.

Finally, the latest Android Nougat 7.1 operating system is at the heart of things with Funtouch OS 3.1 running the show on the X9s Plus.

Conclusion:

With Vivo X9s Plus just weeks away from its release, it will be a phablet of choice for a lot of users out there. It seems to be getting a lot of things right, mainly its large 5.85-inch Full HD AMOLED screen, mid-range hardware, amazing selfie camera, great primary camera, great battery and the latest operating system right out of the box. But then not everything is perfect with it, as you have to make do with just 64GB of internal storage.

Vivo X9s Plus is expected to be released later in Q3 2017 with an estimated price of $2,998 Chinese Yuan or ~$439 USD. You can choose from either Gold, Rose Gold or Black colour.
