If the Pro 6 was the world’s first smartphone to be equipped with a 10-core processor, surely its successor wants to make itself known to the world as well – hence the selfie screen.

But before we begin, let’s do a quick throwback at Pro 6 as per below:

  • 5.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels (~423 ppi pixel density)
  • 3D Press display
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection
  • Mediatek Helio X25 chipset, 10-core processor made up of 2.5 GHz Dual-core Cortex-A72 & 2 GHz Quad-core Cortex-A53 & 1.4 GHz Quad-core Cortex-A53, Mali-T880 MP4 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • 21MP primary camera with f/2.2, 31mm, phase detection & laser autofocus and ten-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with f/2.0, 1.4 µm pixel size and 1080p
  • 32GB or 64GB internal storage with no expansion slot
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 2560 mAh battery with Fast battery charging: 26% in 10 minutes and 100% in 60 minutes (mCharge 3.0)
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • May 2016 release date
  • $389 USD for 32GB and $429 USD for 64GB price tag

For something that good one year ago, Pro 6 is indeed ahead of its time. 3D Press Display, 10-core processor and 21MP primary camera are three of its best specs, and it was considered to be very high-tech in 2016.

Well then, what’s in store for us this year with the Pro 7? Here you go with its specs:

  • 5.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels (~423 ppi pixel density)
  • Secondary 2" AMOLED display, 240 x 536 pixels
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6757T Helio P25 chipset, Octa-core (4x1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.6 GHz Cortex-A35) processor, Mali-T880MP2 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • Dual 12MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 16MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • 64GB internal storage with no expansion slot
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging (mCharge 3.0)
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • August 2017 expected release date
  • $429 USD estimated price tag

Once again, Meizu came up with a thing of beauty. The design concept and pursuit of perfection can be seen throughout the highly-detailed brushed texture, the enhanced edge processing of the antenna, and the new sensor and receiver design. It has refined the essence of existing products with breathtaking and elaborate detail.

Yes, the Pro 7 will be sporting a similar 5.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen with a metal body and fingerprint sensor. But this time around, it introduces a revolutionary secondary 2-inch AMOLED screen that stands out from the crowd.

The all-new combination of the dual rear cameras and the rear display has created brand-new selfie possibilities. Precise tuning of beautification algorithms makes your selfies even more attractive which allows you to see yourself on the rear screen in real-time, making capturing that perfect smile a breeze. The rear display can also be used to display notifications that free you up from the hassle of managing all your notifications. Ignore unwanted reminders while at work, and never miss out on important messages in your spare time.

Under the hood of the Pro 7 might seem to be a little bit of a downgrade from last year’s Pro 6, but it still packs a great punch. Powered by the Helio P25 chipset, a decently fast octa-core processor, good graphics and 4GB RAM brings with it mid-range kind of performance.

One of the highlights of the show for Pro 7 is the availability of the dual 12MP primary camera which elevates your photo-taking adventure to a whole new level. It comes with an enhanced night image quality, richer detail, and an all-new blurring mode so that each shot is a work of art. Then there’s the 16MP selfie camera to cater for all your selfies.

Storage-wise, the Pro 7 comes with 64GB of internal storage that lets you install lots of stuff on it. But when it comes to capturing photos in the highest resolution available, I'm afraid that it won’t last you very long. It should get filled up in no time at all, hence the need to depend on cloud storage or USB on-the-go.

With 3000 mAh battery supplying the necessary juice – it should be more than enough to power up the smartphone for at least a full day.

Last but not least, the latest Android Nougat 7.0 operating system will be available right out of the box which is nice.

Conclusion:

Meizu Pro 7 introduces a revolutionary concept where a second screen is at the back, rather than the traditional front section design. This means you get to look at selfies in a whole new way, receive notifications without much distraction, listening to songs on your playlist and so much more. Plus, it is a good mid-range smartphone with a great dual primary camera as well.

Meizu Pro 7 is set to be released this month August 2017 for ~$429 USD. It will be available in Black, Gold and Red.
