On show for us today is Gionee A1 Lite with its amazing 20MP selfie camera, and Meizu M6 Note with its great 5.5-inch screen and great hardware. Both can be yours for slightly under USD 240, but which one is the better option between the two?

We all know that to have a Lite version means that the Lite version is supposedly inferior. But is that the case?

  • 5.3-inch High Definition IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~277 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Gorilla Glass 3 protection
  • Mediatek MT6753 chipset, Octa-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T720MP3 graphics and 3GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash
  • 20MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash
  • 32GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 64GB
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 4000 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • August 2017 release date
  • 14,999 Indian Rupee or ~USD 235

A1 Lite is sporting a 5.3-inch HD IPS screen which is neither the right screen size nor the best resolution for it. But it makes things up with a metal body, fingerprint sensor and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Regarding performance, the A1 Lite falls somewhere in the middle of things with the MT6753 chipset, a decent octa-core processor, decent graphics and 3GB RAM.

It might not blaze through everything, but at least it gets the job done very well indeed.

Moving on to the camera, the 13MP primary camera can be considered your average camera setup for 2017 that brings good joy with PDAF and dual-LED flash features. But it is on the 20MP selfie camera that also comes with LED flash that should get you excited. You can take great-looking selfies with it, even under low-light conditions.

Storage-wise, with 32GB of internal storage that is available – this should be more than enough for you to install your favourite apps and games. Should you need more space, just pop in a microSD card and it can give you up to 256GB of additional space.

With 4000 mAh battery supplying the necessary juice to the A1 Lite, you can be looking at 1-2 days of battery life which is very good enough these days.

Last but not least, the latest Android Nougat 7.0 operating system is available for the A1 Lite which should make things better improved and loaded with the latest features and functions.

Expected to be launched on August 23rd, here’s looking forward to Meizu M6 Note which might spring a surprise or two by that date.

But as of now, here’s what we know about it:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~403 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6757T Helio P25 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.6 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.6 GHz Cortex-A35) processor, Mali-T880MP2 graphics and 3GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • 32GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Android Nougat 7.1
  • Non-removable 4000 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • August 23rd, 2017 launch date
  • 1,599 Chinese Yuan or ~USD 239 estimated price tag

For starters, we can immediately see that the M6 Note will be sporting a 5.5-inch Full HD LTPS IPS screen that is slightly bigger, while having the better LTPS technology and higher resolution as well. The metal body and fingerprint sensor further complement it.

The M6 Note also seems to score more points in the hardware section, with it being equipped with the better Helio P25 chipset, faster octa-core processor and better graphics. The performance should be more solid and powerful.

But then things started to take a backseat, as the smartphone will be equipped with a 13MP-8MP camera combination which puts it on the average side of things. Not too great and not too shabby either.

Finally, we can see that the M6 Note have the same specs – with it having 32GB of internal storage that can also be expanded to a maximum of 256GB via the microSD slot, similar Android Nougat 7.1 operating system as well as a similar 4000 mAh battery to boot.

Elsewhere for Meizu M6 Note, you will be getting a much better screen and better hardware that makes for a much better all-around performance between the two. Even then, don’t forget about the surprise that Meizu had promised on the launch date – so brace yourself.
