Zenfone 4 Max ZC554KL had just been released and is positioned among its peers as the mid-range offering from Asus. We had to wait for almost a year, since the first Zenfone 3 release

Sporting a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS screen with an exquisite metal body, fingerprint sensor; it has the advantage of Gorilla Glass to protect it from any misfortune or mishandling.

Under the hood of Zenfone 4 Max ZC554KL is nothing spectacular though, as it is powered by the entry-level Snapdragon 430 chipset, a decent octa-core processor, decent graphics but with 4GB RAM. This setup should be able to let you run most apps and games, but not those demanding ones.

The dual 13MP primary camera is great though, as you get to experience the thrill of taking high-res photos with ease. You also get to experiment with the bokeh effect, that lets you shoot like the pros. The 8MP selfie camera is equipped with LED flash which lets you take selfies even when in the dark, and it will still look good.

Storage-wise, there’s only 32GB of internal storage that is found on the Zenfone 4 Max ZC554KL, but you can easily add up to 256GB of extra space pretty easy.

Moving on to the battery side of things, the built-in 5000 mAh battery is superior that lets the smartphone last for a day or two without any hiccups.

Finally, the latest Android Nougat 7.0 is available that boosts up performance by a little bit which is nice.

Meanwhile for Cool Play 6, it is expected to be available exclusively on Amazon India on September 4th. For those of you who may not know, Coolpad is a company from Shenzhen, China. And just like any other Chinese manufacturer, they are set to bring great value for money in the smartphone marketplace that will benefit us all.

Here’s the lowdown for Cool Play 6 for comparison purpose:

  • 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~401 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8976 Pro Snapdragon 653 chipset, Octa-core (4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A72) processor, Adreno 510 graphics and 6GB RAM
  • Dual 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.4 µm pixel size
  • 64GB internal storage with no microSD expansion slot
  • Android Nougat 7.1.1, upgradeable to Android Oreo 8.0
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 4000 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • September 4th 2017 release date
  • $14,999 Indian Rupee or ~$235 USD price tag

This is where we love the spirit of competition. Cool Play 6 is very similar to its competition, by sporting the similar 5.5-inch Full HD IPS screen with a metal body and fingerprint sensor which is nice.

But when it comes to its raw processing power, Cool Play 6 wins hands-down with its mid-range Snapdragon 653 chipset, fast octa-core processor, good graphics and a whopping 6GB RAM. We don’t normally find a 6GB smartphone at this price range, so a good advantage for them over here.

Camera-wise, the dual 13MP primary camera might seem very similar at first. But then there’s the added advantage of PDAF and dual-LED (dual tone) flash which makes its camera better overall. Then there’s the 8MP selfie camera that completes the package.

As far as storage goes, there’s more than enough with the 64GB internal storage found on Cool Play 6. But then there’s no expansion slot for you to add more space, should you need to. Here’s where you need to go for cloud storage or use USB on-the-go for expansion purposes.

With 4000 mAh battery supplying the necessary juice to the Cool Play 6, you can count on it to deliver the performance of a 4500mAh battery due to optimisations being made to its software. It should be very easy to last you for a full day in between charging.

They say to save the best for last, and this is where Cool Play 6 is set to get the update to the next operating system in-line; Android Oreo 8.0. This piece of news is particularly exciting, as it can extend the shelf life of this smartphone by a few more months.

Asus Zenfone 4 Max ZC554KL have some serious underpower issue when compared to its competition at this price range. But it is still a good smartphone though, by packing the dual 13MP primary camera and huge 5000 mAh battery capacity to its name.

Asus Zenfone 4 Max ZC554KL had just been released for $USD 239. You get to choose from Titanium Gray, Rose Pink or Sand Gold color.

Elsewhere for Coolpad Cool Play 6, it is a real gem of a smartphone if you can get hold of it. Great mid-range hardware with 6GB RAM, amazing dual 13MP primary camera setup and the prospect of getting the update to the up-coming Android Oreo 8.0. This means it can last you for a few months longer than the usual with this update.

Coolpad Cool Play 6 is expected to be released on September 4th for approximately $14,999 Indian Rupee or ~$235 USD. It will be available in Gold and Black color.
