9 months after its predecessor, Mate 9 enters the scene; it is about time for a replacement model to step in. Trying to improve on last year’s flagship model will take a lot of effort.

Let’s first do a quick throwback as to what Mate 9 was all about last year:

  • 5.9-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~373 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Gorilla Glass 3 protection
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Hisilicon Kirin 960 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) processor, Mali-G71 MP8 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • Dual 20 Megapixel +12 Megapixel primary camera, f/2.2 aperture, 27mm, OIS, 2x lossless zoom, Leica optics, phase detection & laser autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/1.9 aperture and 26mm
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • December 2016 release date
  • $775 USD price tag

With a size that big, it really is a very niche market. Especially so if the Mate 9 have all the high-end stuff and with such a heavy price tag to boot as well.

Having said that, Mate 10 looks all set to blow the fish out of the water this time around. We probably have to wait until October 16th to see the real deal, but based on the recent leaks that was all over the Internet, here’s why we all couldn’t wait for its launch date:

  • 5.99-inch Quad HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2880 pixels or ~538 ppi pixel density
  • Gorilla Glass protection
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) processor and 6GB RAM
  • Dual 20MP+12MP primary camera with f/1.6 aperture, OIS, 2x lossless zoom, Leica optics, phase detection & laser autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • 64GB/128GB internal storage + microSD slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Oreo 8.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • October 16th 2017 launch date

The biggest news so far to break this year, Mate 10 is set to be sporting a slightly larger 5.99-inch IPS screen with the upgraded Quad HD resolution. This means you need to have very big and strong hands to handle this huge beast, as single-handed operating is highly unlikely. Then there’s the Gorilla Glass protection and fingerprint sensor as well. But wait, there’s talk about it having an iris scanner which lets you unlock the smartphone with your eyes. If it comes true, how cool is that?

Concerning performance, Mate 10 has all the firepower it needs and more to give life to its huge body. Powering the device is a Kirin 970 chipset, blazingly fast octa-core processor and a whopping 6GB RAM. It doesn’t get any better than this.

The incorporation of the dual 20MP+12MP primary camera is top-notch. You get to enjoy the best of the best that smartphone photography has to offer and even rivalling those of DSLR camera. Then there will be the 8MP selfie camera for all your selfie needs.

Storage-wise, there will be two options available. You can either go for 64GB or 128GB, depending on your budget. Whichever way you go with, you can still add more space up to 256GB via the available expansion slot.

With 4000 mAh battery supplying the necessary juice to the Mate 10, there shouldn’t be any problem to last the flagship for a full day in between charging.

Finally, the latest Android Oreo 8.0 will be available right out of the box once the Mate 10 is released. The latest and best software available to accompany the best hardware on this flagship.

Huge 5.99-inch Quad HD IPS screen, high-end flagship performance, fantastic dual 20MP+12MP primary camera, ample storage, large battery and the latest Oreo 8.0 operating system will make for an irresistible monster.

Huawei Mate 10 is expected to be unveiled on October 16th although there’s no word on the pricing yet. It will be available in a variety of colours, so stay tuned for more updates.
