Thanks to the Chinese manufacturers, we have been presented with value for money devices for quite some time now. Even for a smartphone that costs ~$100, you will get so much value out of it.

Same goes with Meizu M6, but before we begin – let’s do a quick throwback to last year’s M5:

  • 5.2-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~282 ppi pixel density
  • 2.5D curved glass
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6750 chipset, Octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Mali-T860MP2 graphics and 2GB/3GB RAM
  • 16GB/32GB internal storage + microSD slot up to 256GB maximum
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 5MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • Non-removable 3070 mAh battery
  • Android Lollipop 5.1
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • November 2016 release date
  • $99 USD for 16GB storage + 2GB RAM and $129 USD for 32GB storage + 3GB RAM

M5 is one of the most eye-catchy smartphones that we have seen for a long time; the body is made of polycarbonate that comes in a wide variety of colours enhanced with CNC technology for a sleek and streamlined touch and feel.  As a conclusion, you will get so much more out of this smartphone than you can imagine by spending just $99 USD for it.

Ten months have now passed since then, and Meizu M6 is set to be released in a few days’ time. Will it be enough for previous owners to prompt them for this upgrade?

Here’s the breakdown of Meizu M6 as per below:

  • 5.2-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280 pixels or ~282 ppi pixel density
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Mediatek MT6750 chipset, Octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processor and 2GB/3GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • 16GB/32GB internal storage + microSD slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3070 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • September 25th 2017 release date
  • 699 Chinese Yuan or ~$105 USD for 16GB storage + 2GB RAM model & 899 Chinese Yuan or ~$135 USD for 32GB storage + 3GB RAM

Well, what can we say? For just some upgrades, and they call it as Meizu M6. First up, you will still be getting the same 5.2-inch HD IPS screen that is just average these days. Thanks to its small screen, you don’t need a Full HD to be able to enjoy watching stuff on the smartphone. A fingerprint sensor than complements it for all your biometric purposes.

Moving on to the hardware side of things, again everything stays the same. Meizu M6 will be sporting the similar MT6750 chipset, decently fast octa-core and either 2GB or 3GB RAM.

Camera-wise, there’s a slight upgrade on the secondary camera. Now you can take better selfies with its 8MP selfie camera. For others, you will still be treated very well with the 13MP primary camera with all the useful features and functions.

Regarding storage, there’s still the option to go for either 16GB or 32GB internal storage. Whichever option you choose, you can easily add more space up to 256GB via the available microSD expansion slot.

As for the battery, a good 3070 mAh battery makes a return – but this time there’s the fast battery charging feature. With this capacity, there shouldn’t be a problem to power up the smartphone for a full day in between charging.

Finally, a piece of good news for those looking to get the Meizu M6. The latest Android Nougat 7.0 will be available right out of the box. Having said that, with the upcoming Android Oreo 8.0 just behind the corner, it remains to be seen whether this smartphone will get the update in the future.

Conclusion:

Meizu M6 is still providing great value for money, but it doesn’t offer much compared to last year’s release. Unfortunately for previous users of the M5, there’s little reason to upgrade – other than it getting a better selfie camera, the battery getting the fast charging feature and the latest Android Nougat 7.0 operating system. You can safely say that it is the same old same old.

Meizu M6 will be released on September 25th for 699 Chinese Yuan or ~$105 USD for 16GB storage + 2GB RAM model & 899 Chinese Yuan or ~$135 USD for 32GB storage + 3GB RAM. You got to choose from a variety of colours, namely Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold, Matte Black and Electric Light Blue.
