Ever since HMD Global acquired Nokia, they have been relentless in their pursuit of reclaiming their spot as the front-runners in the smartphone industry. For those of you who may not know, HMD is a start-up company from Nokia’s native country, Finland. When all seems gloom and doom for Nokia, here comes HMD to rescue them and hopefully return them to their former glory.

Before Nokia 9, their previous release would be Nokia 8. Here's a recap on Nokia 8 as per below:

  • 5.3-inch Quad HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2560 pixels or ~554 ppi pixel density
  • IP54 certified - dust and splash resistant
  • Aluminum body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection
  • Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.45 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo) processor, Adreno 540 graphics and 4GB RAM

Nokia 9 will be featuring a larger 5.5-inch Quad HD screen with the better AMOLED tech. It will also get an upgrade in the form of the IP68 certification which will now make it dust and waterproof, not just resistant. Then there’s the usual fingerprint sensor and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

Moving to what’s under the hood of Nokia 9, it will be the same Snapdragon 835 chipset, blazingly fast Kryo octa-core processor, Adreno 540 graphics and 4GB RAM. There’s absolutely nothing that can stop this smartphone or slow it down.

Same goes with its dual 13MP primary camera, Nokia 9 will be utilising the same setup as Nokia 8. There’s nothing wrong with that really, as the Carl Zeiss optics are sure to delight most users as it brings out the best in smartphone camera to take it to the next level. The 13MP selfie camera will then cater to all your selfies.

Regarding storage, there will be two options available – either 64GB or 128GB. There’s always room for expansion with the microSD slot for an additional 256GB.

For audio lovers, you probably enjoy a good taste of music with Nokia’s own OZO system.

Perhaps the best part of all about Nokia 9 will be the fact that it will be running on the latest Android Oreo 8.0 operating system upon its release. This will make it among the first few smartphones that will be sporting this latest update from Android.

Conclusion:

Nokia 9 will be up there amongst other flagships in the battle for the Flagship of the Year 2017 award. With so many big names, it will be a tough one. But with this flagship, you will get an excellent 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED screen, top-of-the-line hardware, the incredible Carl Zeiss dual 13MP primary camera, ample storage and the latest operating system to boot.

Nokia 9 is expected to be available sometime in Q4 2017 for an estimated price tag of 750 Euro or ~$900 USD price tag and plenty of colours to choose from.
