Huawei Mate 10 Lite: $359 is all you need to get a 5.9-inch phablet with four cameras

Although still a few months to go before it will be released, Huawei Mate 10 Lite will be one immense smartphone with a dual primary camera and dual selfie camera combination.

But before we begin, we all know that Lite is supposed to be a scaled-down version. Although the Mate 10 will be launched on October 16th. Let's review Mate 10- Mate 10 Lite's bigger brother:

  • 5.99-inch Quad HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2880 pixels or ~538 ppi pixel density
  • Gorilla Glass protection
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A53) processor and 6GB RAM
  • Dual 20MP+12MP primary camera with f/1.6 aperture, OIS, 2x lossless zoom, Leica optics, phase detection & laser autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • 64GB/128GB internal storage + microSD slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Oreo 8.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • October 16th 2017 launch date

Huge 5.99-inch Quad HD IPS screen, high-end flagship performance, amazing dual 20MP+12MP primary camera, large storage, large battery and the latest Oreo 8.0 operating system will make for an irresistible monster. There’s still the pricing factor to be taken into consideration, but prepare a deep pocket to afford it.

That leaves us with its smaller sibling, here you go with the Mate 10 Lite:

  • 5.9-inch Full HD with IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2160 pixels or ~409 ppi pixel density
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.36 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.7 GHz Cortex-A53) processor, Mali-T830 MP2 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • Dual 16MP+2MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus and LED flash
  • Dual 13MP+2MP secondary camera
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3340 mAh battery
  • Android Oreo 8.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • Q4 2017 expected release date
  • 2,399 Chinese Yuan or ~$359 USD price tag

As you can see from above, Mate 10 Lite is positioned at the mid-tier side of things. If you can’t afford the flagship high-end Mate 10, then there’s still Mate 10 Lite that you can go for.

First up, it will be sporting a slightly smaller 5.9-inch Full HD IPS screen; but still too big for most users. You will have a challenge handling it with one hand, and there’s also the other issue of carrying it around as well as putting it in your pocket.

Regarding performance, you can be sure of a mid-upper performance with the available Kirin 659 chipset, a fast octa-core processor, good graphics and 4GB RAM.

Then comes the best part of all – four cameras. On the primary camera, it will be fitted with a dual 16MP+2MP camera. It might not be that high-end, as to keep the price into perspective. Then comes the huge surprise of all, the dual 13MP+2MP selfie camera. It is even better than the Mate 10, as there’s only an 8MP selfie camera found on it.

Taking lots of photos needs a massive storage. With 64GB of internal storage, it provides sufficient storage – but you also have the support of the microSD expansion slot which can easily add 256GB of space.

Battery-wise, the 3340 mAh battery found on the Mate 10 Lite seems to be just enough to power up the phablet for a full day.

Another good news comes from the fact that the Mate 10 Lite will be running on the latest Android Oreo 8.0 upon its release.

Huawei Mate 10 Lite is a good alternative for those who don’t need that high-end of a device, let alone can afford the flagship. You will still be getting a huge 5.9-inch Full HD IPS screen, mid-upper performance, amazing four-camera setup, ample storage and the latest Oreo 8.0 OS. All for a reasonable price.

Huawei Mate 10 Lite is expected to be released sometime in Q4 2017 for 2,399 Chinese Yuan or ~$359 USD price tag. It will be available in Obsidian Black, Streamer Gold and Aurora Blue colours.
