ZTE Axon M: is it a smartphone? or is it a tablet?

Usher in the new era of foldable smartphone with ZTE Axon M. Never before has it been done, where you get a revolutionary foldable smartphone with dual screen technology that enables the true power of multitasking.

It was a huge leap from the previous Axon that was on-show with us back in July. Back then, we have Axon 7s with the following specs:

  • 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2560 pixels or ~538 ppi pixel density
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 chipset, Quad-core (2x2.35 GHz Kryo & 2x1.6 GHz Kryo), Adreno 530 graphics and 6GB RAM
  • Dual 20MP+12MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual-tone) flash
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • 128GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3400 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Nougat 7.1
  • July 2017 release date
  • $489 USD price tag

Axon 7s was a flagship with great Quad HD screen, great hardware, great dual 20MP+12MP camera and huge 128GB storage to its name. It does help that it carries an affordable price tag as well, which makes it one of the best-sellers for ZTE.

With that in mind, where do we even begin with Axon M? It caught everyone by surprise, although the foldable technology has been around with a laptop and physical keyboard that can be folded together.

But a smartphone with a dual display? That’s certainly something we didn’t even think of right?

Let’s dive in to find out more details about Axon M:

  • 5.2-inch Dual IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio or ~426 ppi density
  • Gorilla Glass 5 protection
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 chipset, Quad-core (2x2.15 GHz Kryo & 2x1.6 GHz Kryo) processor, Adreno 530 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • 20MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • No secondary camera
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3180 mAh battery with Fast battery charging (Quick Charge 3.0)
  • Android Nougat 7.1.2
  • Dolby Atmos sound system
  • November 7th 2017 release date
  • $725 USD price tag

Double your expectations with the Axon M as you transform it into Dual Mode. There’s huge potential in app combinations, as the two 5.2-inch Full HD screen combines to give you a stunning 6.75-inch tablet-like display. Then there’s Extended Mode which lets you play games or watch your favourite shows on a larger screen, when and where you want to. Share Your Screen - Sit across from your friends and watch the same content on one device. Simply fold the device in Mirror Mode and place it on a table for easy viewing from two separate sides. Or if you prefer the good old view, Traditional Mode gives you a great everyday smartphone that is easy to use and hold in one hand. It will adapt to your needs, so you can use it however you want, whenever you want it.

Performance-wise, Axon M needs all the power it can to support the dual-screen technology. You should be able to get top-notch performance with the available Snapdragon 821 chipset, fast Kryo quad-core processor, great graphics and 4GB RAM.

But if there’s a disadvantage at all with the Axon M, then it will be on the camera. You won’t find a selfie camera on this smartphone though, only the 20MP primary camera is available. Just take note of this, if you are a selfie fan. The 20MP primary camera captures truly striking photos and crisp 4K video. Electronic image stabilisation means you always get the shot, even on the move. And with a f/1.8 aperture lens, the camera provides stable performance even in low-light conditions.

Storage-wise, there’s 64GB of internal storage that you can find on the Axon M. This should allow you to install all your favourite apps and games with plenty left to spare. But if you are going to use it for entertainment purposes, then you can easily add up to 256GB via the available microSD expansion slot.

Talking about entertainment, with built-in dual speakers and Dolby Atmos® audio; you get sound with astonishing clarity and richness that seems to come from all directions.

Regarding battery, the 3180 mAh-rated battery found on the Axon M should be able to last you for a full day of charge. But just bring along a powerbank just in case.

ZTE Axon 7 M is revolutionizing the smartphone arena with the beautiful concept of a foldable dual screen. You get to do more with a smartphone and break the boundaries between a smartphone and tablet. It also packs a punch with a great performance, great protection, great 20MP primary camera and great Dolby sound system as well.

ZTE Axon 7 M is expected to be released on November 7th for approximately $725 USD and is only available in Carbon Black color.
