Archos Diamond Omega vs Vivo X20 Plus: two amazing huge screen smartphones for under $580

Archos Diamond Omega with four cameras and Vivo X20 Plus with its huge 6.43-inch Full HD Fullview display battle it out for under $580 USD.

You may not have heard of Archos before, so let’s do a quick introduction on the company. Archos hails from France and happens to be a multinational electronics company that was established in 1988 by Henri Crohas. It manufactures tablets, smartphones, portable media players and portable data storage devices. For those residing outside of Europe, there’s a big chance that you may never have heard of them, but you will hear more of them soon.

In fact, Diamond Omega is their first foray into the flagship market space with the following specs:

  • 5.73-inch Full HD LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2040 pixels, 17:9 ratio or ~403 ppi density
  • Front/back glass & metal frame
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.45 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo) processor, Adreno 540 graphics and 8GB RAM
  • Dual 12MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture + 23 MP, f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, 2x lossless zoom, dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • Dual 5MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture
  • 128GB internal storage with no expansion slot
  • DTS-HD audio
  • Non-removable Li-Po 3100 mAh battery with Fast battery charging 50% in 25 minutes (Quick Charge 3.0)
  • Android Nougat 7.1
  • November 20th 2017 release date
  • 500 Euro or ~$579 USD price tag

First up, you will marvel at its large although unconventional 5.73-inch Full HD LTPS IPS screen with an interesting 17:9 ratio. With Fullview display coming in at 18:9, and the normal display at 16:9, it is the middle ground that Diamond Omega is taking. The screen is ultra-bright, that you can still be able to see the screen even when in direct sunlight. With a metal body wrapping it up, it will surely make heads turn.

Performance-wise, Diamond Omega will be at the very top with the high-end Snapdragon 835, fast octa-core processor, great graphics and an amazing 8GB RAM. You can expect out of this world performance with this great combination, as it blazes through everything that you throw at it.

With four cameras on display with Diamond Omega, this is another great advantage that it has. The dual 12MP+23MP primary camera is amazing, with the 12MP camera sporting Sony IMX362 sensor and the 23MP camera sporting Sony IMX318 sensor. Then there’s the dual 5MP selfie camera as well that lets you have the bokeh effect even when taking selfies. This is camera smartphone technology at its finest.
In terms of storage, huge 128GB of internal storage is available on the Diamond Omega although there won’t be an expansion slot available. You will then have to make use of cloud storage and USB on-the-go once things get filled up very fast by snapping huge file sizes from the high-res photos.

For audio lovers, rejoice with the crystal clear sound that is produced with DTS-HD audio found on the Diamond Omega.

As for the battery, you might think that the 3100 mAh battery not enough for a smartphone this big and powerful; but it should do just fine. Whenever you are low on battery, just activate the new NeoPower 3.0 power saving mode where it allows for to 3 hours of additional battery life.

Now for something much larger with Vivo X20 Plus and its 6.43-inch Full HD screen. Single-handed operation is no longer an option, as you have to make use of both hands while handling this huge smartphone.

Here’s the rest of the specs which makes up the Vivo X20 Plus:

  • Android Nougat 7.1.1
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • October 2017 release date
  • 3,498 Chinese Yuan or ~$529 USD price tag

With Fullview display on show with the X20 Plus, it is following the recent trend that is picking up pace. With its huge 6.43-inch Full HD AMOLED screen, you get to maximize the available screen real estate and enjoying the benefits of it.

Regarding performance, the X20 Plus is in the mid-range realm with its Snapdragon 660 chipset, fast Kryo octa-core processor and 4GB RAM. Still fast enough for your daily use.

Camera-wise, it won’t be as spectacular though. But with the available dual 12MP+5MP primary camera, this allows for some great photo-taking adventure and you can play around with bokeh effect. For selfie lovers, it is good to know that there’s the 12MP selfie camera around for your selfies.

Storage-wise, 64GB internal storage should be doing just fine for all your apps and games. Should you need more space, just insert a microSD card and you can easily add up to 256GB maximum.

Large screen needs more battery to power it up, here’s where we can find the X20 Plus with a larger 3900 mAh battery supplying the necessary juice. Surely no problem to last it for a full day of charge.

Archos Diamond Omega might be an unknown smartphone, but it has everything going for it as it bursts into the crowded international scene. With such amazing specs for such an amazing price, that’s where it will give others a run for their money.
