Samsung Galaxy A8 2018: back at last after a year’s absence

Samsung launched their A-series back in 2015, and it somehow stopped with the Galaxy A8 in 2016. After going missing for a year here’s to Galaxy A8 in 2018.

The last Galaxy A8 was introduced back in October 2016, the second in production. Here’s a throwback at Galaxy A8 2016 as per below:

  • 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels or ~386 ppi pixel density
  • Metal body
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Exynos 7420 Octa chipset, Octa-core (4x2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 & 4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53) processor, Mali-T760MP8 graphics and 3GB RAM
  • 16MP primary camera with f/1.9 aperture, autofocus and LED flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/1.9 aperture
  • 32GB/64 internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3300 mAh battery
  • Android Marshmallow 6.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • October 2016 release date
  • USD 589 price tag

The Galaxy A8 2016 was a mixed bag, with some hit and miss here and there. No doubt it comes with a great screen, beautiful metal body, great hardware (at that time) and great 16MP-8MP camera. But it wasn’t so much of an improvement over the Galaxy A8 2015, and the pricing is a little bit on the high side; just as expected from a Samsung smartphone.

With that in mind, here’s what we can expect of Galaxy A8 2018:

  • 5.6-inch Full HD Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2220 pixels, 18.5:9 ratio or ~441 ppi density
  • IP68 certified – dust proof and waterproof over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes
  • Infinity display (similar to Fullview display)
  • Front/back glass with aluminium body
  • Corning Gorilla Glass protection
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Always-on display
  • Exynos 7885 Octa chipset, Octa-core (2x2.2 GHz Cortex-A73 & 6x1.6 GHz Cortex-A53) processor, Mali-G71 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • 16MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture, phase detection autofocus and LED flash
  • Dual 16MP + 8MP secondary camera with f/1.9 aperture
  • 32GB/64 internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to maximum 256GB
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery
  • Android Nougat 7.1
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • January 2018 expected release date

In a recent launch event, Junho Park, Vice President of Global Product Planning, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics said: “With the release of the Galaxy A8 2018 and A8+ 2018, we’re bringing our customers’ favorite features from our flagship smartphones, such as the Infinity Display and our first Dual Front Camera with Live Focus, to our Galaxy A series, which is already known for its premium design. “The Galaxy A8 2018 and A8+ 2018 exemplify our continued dedication to meeting the needs of our consumers by providing them with greater choice and convenience.”

Starting with the obvious, Galaxy A8 2018 sports a 5.6-inch Full HD Super AMOLED with Infinity display and a killer metal body that exhibits its premium look and feel. There’s the Always-On Display, meaning you can get information at a glance without unlocking your phone. Not to mention, the IP68 certification and Gorilla Glass combine well together to provide that extra bit of protection against any mishaps.

Under the hood of the Galaxy A8 2018 will be in the medium-upper range with the Exynos 7885 chipset, a fast octa-core processor, great graphics and 4GB RAM. All apps and games will run smoothly on this smartphone.

Snap bright and clear selfies with the Dual 16MP+8MP selfie camera, no matter where you are or what you are doing. It is made up of two separate cameras, so you can switch between the two to take the type of selfie you want, from close-ups with the background to portrait shots with a clear and crisp background. And with the advanced Live Focus feature, you can quickly adjust the bokeh effect before or after you take the picture to create high-quality images.

Storage-wise, there are two options available for you to choose. Either go with 32GB or 64GB, it can easily be expanded up to a maximum of 256GB via the microSD expansion slot.

Finally, the 3000 mAh battery might not seem like much; but it is said that it can easily last the Galaxy A8 2018 for a full day of charge.

Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 reignites the excitement of the A-series that is almost forgotten. Large 5.6-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen with Infinity display, great features and functions like the Always-On display and IP68 certification, medium-upper performance level and a great dual 16MP+8MP selfie camera makes for an interesting smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 is expected to be released onJanuary 2018 although there’s no mention of the price yet. It will be available in Black, Orchid Grey, Gold and Blue colours.
