For those of you who are on the lookout for a budget smartphone, Oppo Realme 2 might just be what you need that is available on the cheap.

The Realme lineup is very new, as it has been only months old. Before we begin, let’s do a quick breakdown of the Realme 1:

  • 6-inch Full HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2160 pixels, 18:9 ratio or ~402 ppi density
  • Fullview display
  • No fingerprint sensor, but uses Face Unlock
  • Mediatek MT6771 Helio P60 chipset, Octa-core (4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4x2.0 GHz Cortex-A53) processor, Mali-G72 MP3 graphics and 3GB/4GB/6GB RAM
  • 13MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and LED flash
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture
  • 32GB/64GB/128 internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Android Oreo 8.1
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3410 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • May 2018 release date
  • 8,990 Indian Rupee or ~135USD for 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage, 10,990 Indian Rupee or ~165 USD for 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and 13,990 Indian Rupee or ~209 USD for 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage

Oppo Realme 1 is one budget smartphone that even the cheapest model is more than sufficient for the average users. Large 6-inch IPS screen, good mid-range performance and a good 13MP-8MP camera setup are more than what the average user needs.

Now then, let’s see what is in store for us with the latest Realme 2 as per below:

  • 6.2-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1520 pixels, 19:9 ratio or ~271 ppi density
  • Fullview display
  • Gorilla Glass 3
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm SDM450 Snapdragon 450 (14 nm) chipset, Octa-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 506 and 3GB/4GB RAM
  • Dual primary camera with 13MP with f/2.2 aperture and AF + 2MP with f/2.4 aperture, depth sensor, LED flash, HDR and panorama
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1/4" and 1.12µm
  • 32GB/64GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Android Oreo 8.1
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 4230 mAh battery
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • September 2018 release date
  • 8,990 Indian Rupee or ~120 USD for 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage

A quick glance will show you that the Realme 2 is a tad larger than its predecessor.

But upon closer scrutiny, that could also well be its weakest link – with it sporting just a HD resolution on it. Never mind the Fullview display or the Gorilla Glass 3 protection, for a screen this big is slightly disappointing to say the least.

The Realme 2 budget smartphone made the transition to a more well-rounded Snapdragon 450 chipset paired with a decent octa-core processor, good graphics and an option to go for either 3GB or 4GB RAM.

Moving on to the primary camera, you now get the taste of a dual primary 13MP-2MP camera setup which is nice. This will greatly appeal to those who love taking photos, as its 8MP selfie camera is also not that bad.

One final point to note about Realme 2 is that, the 4230-mAh rated battery is a huge upgrade from its predecessor. Now you can easily have it around you for a couple of days before charging.

Conclusion:

Oppo Realme 2 is a budget smartphone that would have wiped its competition clean, provided it comes with a Full HD resolution. Other than that, it is a real value for money device.

Oppo Realme 2 is currently available for $8,990 Indian Rupee or ~$120 USD for the 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage variant. Three colours for you to choose from Diamond Black, Diamond Red and Diamond Blue.
