The slogan ‘Proud To Be Young’, seems to be doing Realme U1 a great deal of justice – especially when it is priced at an affordable $170 USD.

But did you know that Oppo is Realme’s parent company? And the Realme lineup is targeted at the mass market. Let’s begin by taking a look at its smaller sibling called the Realme 2 as per below:

  • 6.2-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1520 pixels, 19:9 ratio or ~271 ppi density
  • Fullview display
  • Gorilla Glass 3
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm SDM450 Snapdragon 450 (14 nm) chipset, Octa-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 506 and 3GB/4GB RAM
  • Dual primary camera with 13MP with f/2.2 aperture and AF + 2MP with f/2.4 aperture, depth sensor, LED flash, HDR and panorama
  • 8MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1/4" and 1.12µm

  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • September 2018 release date
  • 8,990 Indian Rupee or ~$120 USD for 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage

Oppo Realme 2 is a budget smartphone that would have blown away all others if only it comes with a Full HD resolution. If you can look beyond that, then it is one real value for money smartphone.

Is that where the Realme U1 is heading next? Well let’s scrutinise it further to find out more:

  • 6.3-inch Full HD LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio and ~409 ppi density

As we glanced through the Realme U1, you can see that it is a much-improved version of the Realme 2.

For starters, the 6.3-inch Full HD LTPS IPS screen is not only bigger; but comes with a higher resolution. Then there’s the Dual 2.5D Design with rounded edges that make for a very comfortable grip. It also features a Light Pillar Design that is crafted with a delicate 13-layer laminated technology, to make it a real solid look-and feel smartphone.

Under the hood of the Realme U1 belongs in the mid-range segment with its Helio P70 chipset paired with a very fast octa-core processor, good graphics and a choice of either 3GB or 4GB RAM. Perhaps the most interesting part is the 12nm FinFET production process combined with CorePilot 4.0 that provides for class-leading performance and power-efficiency.

But perhaps the highlight of the show on the Realme U1 is on its 25MP Sony flagship IMX 576 sensor selfie camera. It comes loaded with Night Shot Brightness feature, thanks mainly to the 1.8µm Large Pixel and 4 in 1 Pixel & Multi-frame Noise Reduction. For an impressive back-light clarity, the Hybrid HDR retains original details. To round it up, the dual 13MP+2MP primary camera offers Powerful AI Photography with HDR, Beautification & Bokeh effect and everything else in Real-time.

The 3500 mAh battery might seem a bit low, but don’t worry. The built-in AI Power Master is available to allocate resource and manage power smartly. The P70 delivers high-performance balanced with excellent power efficiency. Do more and charge less.

Conclusion:

Realme U1 seems to further expand on its budget lineup by offering something for everyone. No one gets life behind with this delightful 6.3-inch Full HD LTPS IPS screen packed with mid-range performance, an amazing 25MP selfie camera that lets you shoot like a pro, and a great 3500 mAh battery.

Realme U1 is currently available for $11,990 Indian Rupee or ~$170 USD for the 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage variant. You get to choose youthful colors, namely Ambitious Black, Brave Blue and Fiery Gold.
