Realme X: $215 smartphone with 6.53-inch screen, dual 48MP-5MP primary camera, 16MP motorized pop-up selfie camera

Realme is doing it again with the X. The sub-brand of Oppo seems to be going to great lengths to capture the mid-range segment with this latest smartphone.

It was just a month ago that the Realme 3 Pro first hit the streets, and is already making waves in the global market.

Realme 3 Pro is a serious contender in the mid-range segment of the market. Massive 6.3-inch Full HD+ IPS screen, great mid-range performance, great camera, great battery and great price makes for a great value.

Now then, where does the Realme X stands amid things?

  • 6.53-inch Full HD+ AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio or ~394 ppi density
  • Fullview display
  • Gorilla Glass 5 protection
  • Fingerprint sensor (under display)
  • Qualcomm SDM710 Snapdragon 710 (10 nm) chipset, Octa-core (2x2.2 GHz Kryo 360 Gold & 6x1.7 GHz Kryo 360 Silver) processor, Adreno 616 graphics and 4GB/6GB/8GB RAM
  • Dual primary camera: 48MP with f/1.7 aperture, (wide), 26mm (wide), 1/2", 0.8µm and PDAF + 5MP with f/2.4, depth sensor, LED flash and HDR
  • Motorized pop-up 16MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, 25mm (wide), 1/3", 1.0µm and HDR
  • 64GB/128GB internal storage with no microSD expansion slot
  • Android Pie 9.0
  • Non-removable Li-Po 3765 mAh battery with Fast battery charging (55% in just 30 minutes)
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • Expected June 2019 release date
  • Expected 215 USD for the 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage variant

My word, the Realme X really marks the spot with its amazing features and great price tag.

With a relatively large 6.53-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen, and the design itself is taking a leaf out of Onion and White Garlic. It is then further protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. You can be calm knowing that it will be safe and sound when the going gets tough. To unlock the smartphone, just put your fingerprint on the screen.

Next up, the Realme X will be sporting a powerful mid-range Snapdragon 710 chipset paired with a blazingly fast Kryo octa-core processor, good Adreno 616 graphics and an option to go all the way up to 8GB RAM. There won’t be any apps or games that will be slowing it down, more than enough for your daily usage.

The best part about the Realme X is definitely on its camera side of things. Here we find it equipped with the dual 48MP+5MP camera combination with all the bells and whistles that you don’t usually expect out of a mid-range smartphone. It also catches the recent motorised pop-up selfie trend, with it coming with a 16MP selfie camera that is ever-ready to shoot selfies in an instant. It first hides in plain sight and will shine when turned on.

You should note that the Realme X won’t have any expansion slot available, so go with the best that your money can buy. Even then, the 64GB or 128GB option probably last you for quite some time; before you have to do some spring cleaning – which is a good thing anyway.

Battery-wise, the 3765 mAh battery should have no problem supplying the necessary juice to the Realme X. And when the time comes to plug it in, it only needs 30 minutes to bring it up to 55% of battery.

Conclusion:

Realme X will be shaking up the market once it gets released this month. There are too many good things come true with this smartphone: large 6.53-inch screen size with AMOLED display technology, great protection with the Gorilla Glass 5, great mid-range hardware, great 48MP+5MP dual primary camera and an even greater 16MP pop-up selfie camera, good battery size with an even better fast charging capability.

Realme X is expected to be released in June 2019 which is anytime soon for an expected price tag of ~$215 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage variant. It will be available in two colours, Steam White and Punk Blue.
