Fancy a smartphone with all the bells and whistles and great performance without having to break the bank? Then you should seriously consider Huawei Y9s as your holiday gift.

But before we begin, there’s already a similar smartphone by Huawei called the Y9 Prime:

It looks like the Y9s have a lot in common with the Y9 Prime indeed. But given that it is released four months later, we can find a bit of an upgrade going on here and there.

For starters, the Y9s sports a similar 6.59-inch Full HD+ LTPS IPS screen but with a metal body covering it up. The polished glass body with a 3D arc design delivers a smooth and comfortable feeling in your hand. Now unlocking your phone in 0.3 seconds can be a reality with the advanced side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

On the performance side of things, everything is the same except for a bump up to 6GB of RAM, which is very lovely indeed.

Camera-wise, this is where the Y9s excels with the 48MP AI triple primary camera, which makes for an amazing point-and-shoot camera shooter.

The ultra-clear 48MP primary camera will capture fine details and crystal clarity in daily situations, along with an 8MP Ultra Wide Angle camera and a 2MP depth camera, the rear triple cameras are your capable assistant for outstanding photography masterpieces. The superior light sensor, combined with the AI algorithm, provides incredible stable and precise shots in low-light. Your night photos will be sharper, brighter and purer.

Then we have the 16MP pop-up selfie camera to make the package complete. It automatically pops up in a short time when you take selfies and retracts when you are done, which achieves a full screen and captures your portrait in a cool way while the upgraded AI beauty algorithm can retouch your portraits and focus more on your face to get perfect selfies even in low light.

In terms of storage, the Y9s comes with a massive 128GB as its default offering and can be expanded up to a maximum of 512GB of additional space.

Finally, the 4000 mAh battery is there to supply the necessary juice to the Y9s. It can support continuous calling for 40 hours, music playback for 80 hours and video playback for 9 hours.

Conclusion:

Huawei Y9s ups the ante a bit to ensure that it keeps up with the time. Large 6.59-inch screen with LTPS IPS technology, good mid-range performance with 6GB RAM, 48MP AI triple primary camera setup, motorised pop-up 16MP selfie camera, large 128GB internal storage and an irresistible price tag should ensure its success. Furthermore, it’s the holiday season and the season of giving.

It will be released on December 3rd for 220 Euro or ~240 USD price tag. Two amazing colours are up for grabs: Midnight Black and Breathing Crystal.
