NGINX grows in APAC, looking for partners

Broader presence drives active recruitment of staff and partners

NGINX, Inc., the company based on the popular open source project and offering a suite of technologies designed to develop and deliver modern applications, has reinforced its strong growth in the ANZ region by filling several positions following the new regional office in Sydney announcement in April. y. NGINX Head of APAC, Norbert Kiss, brought on board Anthony Leverington as Country Manager for ANZ, and the APAC team has quickly broadened with sales, marketing and technical support staff.

NGINX, whose platform is already used by three out of four major banks and several large telecommunications providers in Australia, has identified the region as having a relatively high adoption rate for microservices when compared to the US and other parts of the world. The company has confirmed that a recent funding round led by Goldman Sachs will continue to provide for growth across the APAC region.

“From the onset, we identified Australia as a key market within Asia Pacific because as we engaged with new and existing customers, we quickly realised how rapidly they were adopting agile development and the implementation of microservices.  Australia is undoubtedly at the forefront of this transition. The major banks we are engaged in, for example, show far more advanced application infrastructure than we see in other parts of the world,” said Norbert Kiss, Head of Asia Pacific.

Telstra Ventures led the Series A funding round for NGINX in 2015, and since then the company has experienced tremendous growth and customer traction, including adoption by more than 30 percent of Fortune 50 companies. The latest series C round of investment, lead by Goldman Sachs, brings NGINX’s total funding to $103 million. In the first four years of NGINX, the company has:

  • Captured 400 million websites globally, which is one-third of all websites. This includes two-thirds of the 10,000 busiest and most demanding sites.
  • Grown to more than 1,500 customers. Three of the five largest global banks, three of the five largest US retails, and five of the 10 largest technology companies trust NGINX.
  • Achieved 100 percent year-over-year growth for four straight years. NGINX is focused on maintaining a similar trajectory.

While companies in Australia are clearly responding to the many benefits of introducing microservices, they do add complexity to the routing of Web services, and that is where NGINX comes in – we can reduce that complexity. As such, we are actively looking to expand our partner base in the region,” concludes Leverington.
